Quaco Head

This is a rocky outcrop and cliffs with a lighthouse, which gives a great view of the bay. This is also a great vantage point to see Isle Haute in the distance to the southeast. Quaco is the name for the whole area in which St Martin’s is located. The name Quaco means “Haunt of the Hooded Seal” in a First Nations language. This is significant in that there have not been Hooded Seals in the Bay of Fundy region for a very long time. Also, some artefacts dating back to the Maritime Archaic period were found near here, dating back about 8500 years.
